Rules for the 2008 OBKA Honey Show

 

OBKA Honey Show Rules

1. All exhibitors must be paid up members of an association affiliated to the BBKA.

2. All exhibits must have been prepared by the exhibitor. All honey, honeycomb and wax must be the natural produce of the exhibitor's bees.

3. Entries are limited to ONE in each class.

4. No label or marking of any kind may be placed on an exhibit other than the label provided by the Honey Show Secretary. For honey in jars, it must be fixed near to the bottom of the jar and not on the cap.

5. Exhibits in Gift classes become the property of the OBKA.

6. Novice classes are open to any member of the OBKA who has not won a first prize or cup in any show.

7. Extracted honey must be exhibited in clear colourless 1 lb (454)g squat glass jars with lacquered metal twist off lids.

8. Jars must contain the standard weight shown in the schedule.

9. Cut comb should weigh approximately 8oz and be presented in a suitable container with a transparent lid.

10. Candles must consist of pure beeswax and be of like design, one to be lit by the judge.

11. Mead must be exhibited in clear colourless glass 75cl bottles of round section with rounded (not sloping ) shoulders. The bottle must be stoppered by a plain cork (plastic or all-cork), which must be easily removable without mechanical aid. No alcohol, flavouring or colouring matter may be added. The bottle must contain a minimum of 75cl of mead.

12. The honey cake must be made according to the recipe in the current schedule and baked in a standard 7-inch round cake tin. It should be placed on a white paper plate or doily.

13. The biscuits must be made according to the recipe in the current schedule.

14. The two photographs should appertain to beekeeping, be no larger than 7" by 5" and be mounted for display.

15. The judge's decision on the placing of exhibits shall be final.

16. Cups may be won only by members of OBKA.

17. For cups, points will be awarded as follows:-
      First 4; Second 3; Third 2; and Very Highly Commended 1.

18. In the event of a tie for a cup, the award shall be made to the exhibitor who has secured the most first prizes, failing this first and second prizes, and so on.

18. Cups may be held for one year.
